What to do when you have a newborn French Bulldog puppy crying.

Whelping can be stressful and a puppy crying can keep you up all night long. Let’s review 4 easy steps you can take before rushing to your emergency Veterinarian. Before I begin I want to clarify I AM NOT A VETERINARIAN. The tips I provide are based strictly off my experiences. Let’s continue🐶

  1. Room Temperature- make sure your puppies are in adequate temperatures. A cold puppy will want to find warmth and a hot puppy will try to find a cooler place. Your puppies rectal temperature should be between 96-99f. and room temperature should be between 80-85f. Feeding a puppy that’s too cold can cause a puppy to aspirate milk. Make sure you puppy is warm enough.

  2. Hungry- Puppies should feed every 2-3 hours their first week, and every 3-4 hours by the second week. Make sure to weigh your puppies at least once a day to verify your puppies are eating enough and thriving.

  3. Potty time- newborn puppies cannot pass their stools alone and require help from dog mom. You can help by rearing your puppies at every feeding to make sure they are peeing and going potty🚽. If you suspect a puppy is constipated you can do an enema by using a 5ml syringe with a tip(do not use the needle) and filtered water or boiled water(once cooled) about 2-4ml depending how big the puppy is. This will help loosing the stool and will help a puppy go potty much easier.

  4. Littermates/mom- puppies are born unable to see and hear. They go strictly by smell and touch. If they can’t smell or feel their littermates or mama nearby. They’ll cry out for mom to find them to rejoin the group.

  5. Sickness- At this point you have checked their temp, fed, reared, and even let mom show some love. But your puppy is still crying. Newborn puppies are born without an immune system and are unable to fight off basic illnesses. Having a vet run some test will help you diagnose the puppy better and faster so that the puppy can receive the necessary medicine and improve health wise.
